Schwarzenberg 1696-GF N thaler Dav-7700
This specimen was lot 2442 in Sincona sale 33 (Zürich, October 2016), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"Schwarzenberg, Fürstentum. Ferdinand Wilhelm Eusebius und Anna von Sulz, 1683-1703 Taler 1696. Nürnberg. Vorzüglich. Kl. Schrötlingsfehler Av. Stempelbruch Rv. (Germany, principality of Schwarzenburg, Ferdinand William Eusebius and Anna of Sulz, 1683-1703, thaler of 1696, Nuremberg mint. Extremely fine, Minor planchet fault obverse, Die-break on reverse.)"
This specimen was lot 2747 in Sincona sale 57 (Zürich, May 2019), where it sold for 1,200 CHF (about US$1,428 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND | Schwarzenberg, Fürstentum, Ferdinand Wilhelm Eusebius und Anna von Sulz, 1683-1703. Taler 1696, Nürnberg. Münzmeister Georg Friedrich Nürnberger. 29.24 g. Selten. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Hübsche Patina. Kleiner Stempelfehler. Stempelbruch im Revers. (Germany, principality of Schwarzenberg, Ferdinand William Eusebius and Anna of Sulz, 1683-1703, thaler of 1696, Nuremberg mint. Rare, Very fine-extremely fine, Attractive patina, Minor die defect, Die break on reverse.)"
This thaler was struck in Nuremberg for the count of Schwarzenberg, distinguished more as a soldier in the Austrian service than as a sovereign prince. This type is still scarce.
