Sincona sale 82, lot 1582

This specimen was lot 1582 in Sincona sale 82 (Zürich, May 2023), where it sold for 4,125 CHF (about US$5,521 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "James I. 1603-1625. Unite of 20 Shillings n. d. (1607-1609), Tower Mint. Second coinage. Fourth bust. Mintmark "coronet". Selten (Rare). NGC AU55. According to an old collector's note, this coin was purchased at Sotheby's in July 1915." This unite of James' second issue was accompanied by a rose ryal (Fr-230), angel, half angel, spur ryal (Fr-231), double crown (Fr-235), thistle crown and half crown. With the accession of James I we drop "England" as the country name and adopt the current "Great Britain."
