Stack's Bowers October 2021 Collector's Choice sale, lot 70477
SB1021-70477r.jpg

This specimen was lot 70477 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2021), where it sold for $750. The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. 24 Skilling, 1741-CW. Copenhagen Mint. Christian VI. PCGS MS-61. Entirely luminous with bold detail and no marks of any consequence. A RARE issue in this enthralling quality!" This type was struck 1732-37, 1740-43. At the time, the monetary system was 12 penning = 1 skilling, 16 skilling = one mark, 4 mark = one krone, 6 mark = one daler specie, 2 daler specie = one ducat. This coin was theoretically one fourth of a daler specie but is a little light on silver. This denomination was struck until 1783. Norway was a part of Denmark until 1814.

Recorded mintage: unknown but not rare in worn condition.

Specification: 9.17 g, .582 fine silver, .165 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM-538.
