This specimen was lot 30274 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $9,400. The catalog description[1] noted, "Bold Design with Quality Surfaces Adolf Fredrik Riksdaler 1752-HM, Stockholm mint, MS66 NGC. A superb piece with incredibly bold design features and pristine surfaces bathed in subtle violet and silvery-gray patina. A remarkable coin in all respects and easily the finest we have seen. Adolf Fredrick was the son of Christian August of Holstein-Gottorp and ruled Sweden as a Constitutional Monarch. Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. Green; Green Estate' Partnership of Eric P Newman/B.G. Johnson." In the pre-reform Swedish coinage, 8 öre = 1 mark and 96 öre = 1 riksdaler. This type was struck in several varieties 1751-66 and is reasonably common.
