Sincona sale 6, lot 1136

This specimen was lot 1136 in Sincona sale 6 (Zurich, May 2012), where it sold for 475 CHF (about US$658 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANKREICH Louis XV. 1715-1774. ½ Louis d'or aux lunettes 1727, Poitiers. Drapierte, geharnischte Büste nach links. Rv. Krone über zwei Wappen, darunter Mzz G. Sehr schön. (France, Louis XV, 1715-74, demi-louis d'or aux lunettes of 1727, Poitiers mint. Obverse: head to left; reverse: crowned arms of France and Navarre and mintmark. Very fine.)"

The type was struck 1726-39. Like all half louis, it is rare but this issue is probably the most available of all demi-louis d'or. The Poitiers mint struck this type 1726-27 only.

Recorded mintage: rare.

Specification: 4.08 g, 0.917 fine gold; this specimen is 4,03 g.

Catalog reference: Dupl-1641. Fr-462, KM 488.5.
