Künker sale 336, lot 7704

This specimen was lot 7704 in Künker sale 336 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €340 (about US$445 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"GERMAN COINS SINCE 1871, BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND, 2 DM 1951, D. Ähren. Polierte Platte. (Germany, Federal Republic, two mark of 1951. Proof.)"

This type was struck 1951 only and is comparatively scarce; the proofs are rare. When production of this denomination resumed in 1957, the coin featured a bust of physicist Max Planck.

Recorded mintage: 19,564,000 plus 200 proofs.

Specification: 7 g, copper-nickel, 26.75 mm diameter.
