Jean Elsen sale 141, lot 1389

This specimen was lot 1389 in Jean Elsen sale 141 (Brussels, June 2019), where it sold for €170 (about US$225 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANCE, Royaume, Louis XV (1715-1774), AR demi-écu Vertugadin, 1716B, Rouen. Réformation. D/ B. enfantin à d., dr. et cuir. R/ Ecu de France rond, couronné. Rare. Très Beau. (kingdom of France, Louis XV, 1715-74, silver half écu vertugadin of 1716, Rouen mint, reformed. Obverse: draped and armored infant bust right; reverse: crowned round arms of France. Rare, Very Fine.)"

At the time of issue, it had a face value of 2 livres 10 sols tournois. While this is not a scarce date, it is scarce compared to the écu vertugadin.

Recorded mintage: unknown rf[2].

Specification: 15.29 g, .917 fine silver, .451 troy oz ASW, 31-33 mm diameter, edge lettered DOMINE SALVUM FAC REGEM, designed by Norbert Roëttiers, this specimen 15,22 g.
