This specimen was lot 20857 in Heritage sale 3004 (New York, January 2009), where it sold for $1,092.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Louis XIIII Ecu 1713K, AU58 NGC. Bordeaux mint. Ecu aux 3 Courounnes (1709-1715). Moderately toned with underlying luster. The surfaces exhibit only a few minute imperfections, and no adjustment marks. Evenly and fully struck. From the Grundy Collection." This is last type of écu struck during the French Sun King's life. The type was struck 1709-15 in substantial numbers. There are also 1/10, 1/4 and half écus struck during this period with this design.

Recorded mintage: 195,840.

Specification: 30.59 g, .917 fine silver, edge lettered "DOMINE SALVUM FAC REGEM", designed by Norbert Roëttiers; this specimen 30.01 g.
