Stephen Album sale 50, lot 3221

This specimen was lot 3221 in Stephen Album sale 50 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $156. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS: Juliana, 1948-1980, AE 5 cents, 1952, superb luster, very small mintage, NGC graded Proof 64 RD, RR." Queen Wilhelmina abdicated in 1948 in protest of Dutch colonial policy in Indonesia in favor of her daughter, Juliana, who would rule until 1980. New coin types were therefore necessary and were introduced in 1950. This bronze five cents was struck without change until 1980. No dates are rare.

Recorded mintage: 14,400,000 plus proofs.

Specification: 3.5 g, bronze, 21 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-181, Y-54, Schulman-1202 (unlisted as proof).
