Honduras 1888 25 centavos

CNG Lissner collection, lot 1860

This specimen was lot 1860 in Classical Numismatic Group's auction of the Richard Lissner collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $665.50. The catalog description^[1] noted, "HONDURAS, Republic. 1840-pres. AR 25 Centavos. Tegucicalpa mint. Dated 1888. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 64. Superb iridescent blue, green, and amber patina over select choice surfaces. A truly beautiful coin and highest ever graded by far. Only Mint State example. Purchased from Meridian Coin Company, February 1976." This type is listed for 1883-1900 and priced fairly low but choice specimens are few. The fineness was reduced to 835 thousandths in 1899.
