This specimen was lot 30223 in Heritage sale 3081 (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $1,560. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Australia, Elizabeth II Proof 6 Pence 1954-(m) PR66 NGC, Melbourne mint. An indisputable rarity of the modern Australian series, this Proof 6 Pence ranks not only as the finest of its type and date certified by either NGC or PCGS, but reveals corresponding quality from even a cursory glance. The surfaces sparkle under light, with their beauty only accentuated by just a hint of silver patina, all while revealing virtually no handling to speak of." Sterling coinage ceased after 1964 and in 1966, the Australian dollar was introduced.

Sterling coinage was struck for several countries besides Great Britain, including Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Southern Rhodesia, Fiji and New Guinea. All converted to decimal coinage in the 1960's.

Recorded mintage: 7,672,000 + proofs.
