Great Britain 1954 6 pence
This specimen was lot 40583 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it sold for $1,680. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 6 Pence, 1954. London Mint. PCGS PROOF-66 Cameo Gold Shield. Exceptionally radiant and shimmering, this VERY RARE proof minor exhibits just a hint of champagne toning while being tied with just one other specimen for the finest in the PCGS census." Altho 40,000 proof sets were made and sold in 1953, the proofs of the rest of the decade are all rare. The obverse legend was revised in 1954 to drop "BRITT:OMN:" and the sixpence was terminated in 1970.
