This specimen was lot 3199 in Sincona sale 91 (Zurich, May 2024), where it sold for 4,250 CHF (about US$5,616 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Freiburg/Fribourg, Stadt und Kanton, Halbbatzen 1767, Freiburg. Silberabschlag. Altes Freiburger Wappen in einer verzierten Kartusche. Rv. Ankerkreuz mit Blütenverzierungen in den Winkeln. In der Umschrift oben die Jahreszahl. Äusserst selten. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Das Stück gibt es nur als Silberabschlag. (Switzerland, canton of Fribourg, half batzen of 1767, Fribourg mint, struck in silver. Obverse: old Fribourg arms in ornate cartouche; reverse: anchor cross cantonned with lilies, date above. Extremely rare, Very fine-extremely fine.)"
This type was struck intermittently 1741-98 and most dates are somewhat available. This is a rare date and unlisted in silver. The SCWC mentions one date in silver, 1774 (KM Pn4) and one date in gold, 1787 (KM Pn6). Half a batzen was two kreuzer. Whereas in most of the Swiss cantons 160 kreuzer made a thaler, in Fribourg 56 kreuzer made a gulden.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: billon, this specimen silver, 2.47 g.
