Sincona sale 35, lot 5176

This specimen was lot 5176 in Sincona sale 35 (Zürich, October 2016), where it sold for 400 CHF (about US$475 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Freiburg/Fribourg | Stadt, Halbbatzen 1754. Sehr selten. Fast sehr schön. (city of Fribourg, half batzen of 1754. Very rare, About very fine.)"

This type was issued 1741, 1746, 1751-54, 1767-74, 1787-89, 1793, 1797-98 with variation in shields. The type is common but the 1754 is a rare date. Two kreuzer = half batzen. Whereas in most of the Swiss cantons 160 kreuzer made a thaler, in Fribourg 56 kreuzer made a gulden.
