This specimen was lot 1483 in Stephen Album sale 47 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $570. The catalog description[1] noted, "TUNISIA: Muhammad al-Habib Bey, 1922-1929, AR 2 francs, 1928/AH1347, rare one-year type, an attractive lustrous example, PCGS graded MS62, R, ex Charles W. Lueders III Collection." A few were also made in gilt aluminum bronze (KM 248a). This coin did not circulate and was likely used for presentation by the bey. All minting during the French protectorate period occurred in Paris (note the "A" mintmark). The French left in 1956 and in 1957 a republic was established, ousting the discredited monarchy.
Recorded mintage: 303.
Specification: 8.6 g, 0.835 fine silver.
Catalog reference: KM-251, Gad-87, Lec-288.
