Sincona sale 9, lot 4547

This specimen was lot 4547 in Sincona sale 9 (Zurich, October 2012), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"ITALIEN Firenze Leopoldo II. di Lorena, 1824-1859. Zecchino 1824. Kl. Kr. Vorzüglich-FDC. (Italy, Florence, Leopold II of Lorraine, 1824-59, zecchino of 1824. Cleaned, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

This ducat or zecchino or fiorino is listed in the SCWC for 1824-32 and 1853. The reverse features John the Baptist. It is the last ducat struck in the duchy. In 1807, the grand duchy was annexed to France, to be returned to the Austrians in 1815.
