This specimen was lot 32086 in Heritage sale 3081 (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $19,200. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Austria: Extremely Elusive Double Ducat of Leopold I. Leopold I gold 2 Ducat 1682 MS61 NGC, Vienna mint. Matthias Mittermayer as mintmaster. The sole example of this extremely rare double ducat date that we have been able to locate coming to auction in recent decades, one that entirely awes the viewer from all angles. Close inspection under magnification reveals only the slightest cabinet friction, while micro-fine die polish is protected close to the devices. Pulling back, the surfaces present a stunning glassy shimmer that borders on semi-reflective in places. A covetable opportunity for the seasoned collector of Austrian and early modern European gold, and a piece that is not to be passed up." This type is listed in the SCWC for 1664, 1669 and 1682. The double ducat from the Graz mint (Fr-320) is more available.
