Nicaragua 1880-H 10 centavos

This specimen, struck for Nicaragua by the Heaton mint in Birmingham, England, was the first ten centavos struck for that country. Previously, United States dimes were imported. In 1912 the peso was dropped in favor of the cordoba and new coins issued. This type is not scarce except in Uncirculated or Proof. The second specimen was lot 1591 in Ponterio sale 173 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $382. The catalog description^[1] noted, "NICARAGUA. 10 Centavos, 1880-H. Bright and reflective proof surfaces. NGC SP-65. From the Luis H. Flores Collection."
