Stack's Bowers ANA sale, lor 1238

This specimen was lot 1238 in Stack's Bowers ANA auction (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $5,287.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 4 Escudos, 1713-MxoJ. Philip V (1700-46). NGC MS-63. Bold strike with full date and assayer. From the David O'Harrow Collection. Ex: 1715 Plate Fleet." This type is known for 1705-13 and the vast majority lack dates altho the 1715 Plate Fleet turned up a few with dates.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 13.54 g, .917 fine gold.
