Aureo sale 232, lot 175

The specimen shown was lot 175 in Aureo y Calico sale 232 (Barcelona, March 2011), where it sold for 120 euros (about US$198 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"1707. Barcelona. 2 reales. Bella. Rara y más así. EBC. (Two reales of 1707, Barcelona mint. Beautiful and rare thus, extremely fine.)

This type was issued in Barcelona 1707-14 on behalf of the Austrian archduke Charles, who as Charles III contended unsuccessfully with Philip V for the throne of Spain. It is fairly common in circulated condition and lists for less than the contemporary issues of Philip V.
