UBS sale 84, lot 2757

This specimen is lot 2757 in UBS sale 84 (Basel, January 2010). The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU. Fernando VI. 1746-1760. 8 Escudos 1751. Assayer J. Cuirassed bust to right, date below. Rev. Crowned arms surrounded by chain of the Order of the Golden Fleece. Weak strike on rev. Almost extremely fine-extremely fine." The type was struck in 1751-53 and is the first milled gold coinage from Peru, superseding the earlier cobs.
