Stack's Bowers 2022 ANA sale, lot 30290
SB822-30290r.jpg

This specimen was lot 30290 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2022), where it sold for $1,020. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRIA. Olmutz. 1/4 Ducat, ND (1728-30). Wolfgang von Schrattenbach. NGC MS-62. A delightful and enchanting minor in gold, this specimen presents a great deal of lustrous brilliance, a rather sharp strike, and a robust deep golden-orange nature to the toning around the devices. From the Augustana Collection." This undated type is scarce, verging on rare. The bishop struck another undated quarter ducat featuring his bust (KM 430, KM 432). This ecclesiastical state was in Moravia, then part of Austria, now the Czech Republic.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 0.875 g, 0.986 fine gold.

Catalog reference: Fr-100; KM-428 (previously KM-119).
