Revision as of 13:53, 14 September 2022
This specimen was lot 1700 in Jean Elsen sale 152 (Brussels, September 2022), where it sold for €220 (about US$266 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"CUBA, République (1902-), AR 20 pesos (2 oz), 1987. Che Guevara. 500 p. frappées. Flan poli. (republic of Cuba, silver twenty pesos (two troy oz) of 1987, Che Guevara, 500 pieces struck. Proof.)"
The year 1987 saw the release of many self-congratulatory NCLT's by the Cuban regime. Greeted by disinterest from the world at large, many are now rare. This type was struck 1987-89.
Recorded mintage: 500 proofs.
Specification: 62.2 g, 0.999 fine silver, 2.00 troy oz ASW.
Catalog reference: KM 170.
