In 1950, to commemorate the opening of the railroad to the Yucatan, the Mexico City mint issued this silver five pesos. The spectacular locomotive design has made this coin a perennial favorite of collectors, so it is fortunate than it is common and readily available.
Recorded mintage: 200,000 (100,000 melted in 1968).
Specification: 27.78 g, 0.720 fine silver, 40 mm diameter, lettered edge.
