Sincona sale 11, lot 847

This specimen was lot 847 in Sincona sale 11 (Zurich, May 2013), where it sold for 650 CHF (about US$805 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Frankfurt am Main, Stadt Dukat 1638. Fast vorzüglich-vorzüglich. (Germany, city of Frankfurt, ducat of 1638, extremely fine.)"

This type is listed for 1633-44. While much more available than the contemporary double ducat (Fr-971), it is not common.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.5 g, 0.986 fine gold, .110 troy oz AGW; this specimen is 3.45 g.

Catalog reference: KM 85, J&F 427. Fr-972.
