This specimen was lot 70532 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2021), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "FINLAND. Penni, 1867. Alexander II. NGC MS-66 Brown. This beautiful preserved choice Gem exhibits a needle sharp strike, smooth surfaces and displays lovely rich patina offering much originality and is pleasing to the eye." This type is listed for 1864-71 and is cheap in circulated condition. Later types are noted for 1872-76, 1881-84 and 1888-1900. Russian defeats in World War One enabled the Finns, who had long chafed under Russian rule, to declare independence.
