Germany 1935-A 5 mark KM-86

from the Stack's Bowers October 2021 Collector's Choice sale, lot 70845

This specimen was lot 70845 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2021), where it sold for $264. The catalog description^[1] noted, "GERMANY. Weimar Republic. 5 Mark, 1935-A. Berlin Mint. NGC PROOF-63. Hindenburg Issue. An attractive Proof with shimmering, flashy fields, sharp strike, and pervasive almond to russet toning throughout." This type was struck 1935-36 to honor recent deceased war hero Paul von Hindenberg. It is common except in proof. In 1936, the Nazis added a swastika to the reverse. The Berlin mint also struck five mark with the Potdam garrison church on the obverse (KM 83).
