The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''1811. Catalunya. 1 cuarto y medio. MBC-.'' (Catalonia, one and a half cuartos, nearly extremely fine.)"</blockquote>  This copper coin was issued from Barcelona after the French occupation for use there and in Catalonia. It was struck 1811-13 and accompanied by a three and six cuartos (sometimes spelled "quartos"). In the local currency, five pesetas = one peso. This coin is not common. The last local [[Coinage of Catalonia|Catalonian]] issue is a rare six quartos dated 1848.
