Mainz SB118-22711r.jpg

This specimen was struck for the Archbishopric of Mainz in 1693-94 while Anselm Franz von Ingelheim ruled as archbishop (1679-95). Like many German minor issues, it is likely much scarcer than the catalog value indicates but collector demand for them is low. The first specimen was lot 1533 in Stack's Coin Galleries sale (Irvine, July 2011). The second specimen was lot 22711 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Mainz. 12 Kreuzer, 1693-CB. Anselm Franz (1679-95). PCGS MS-65 Secure Holder. Bold strike, lustrous and exceptional."

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: KM 208.
