Jean Elsen sale 125, part of lot 1170

This specimen was part of lot 1170 in Jean Elsen sale 125 (Brussels, June 2015), which sold for €65 (about US$87 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRABANT, Duché, Charles le Téméraire (1467-1477), lot de 2 p.: double briquet, Anvers, 1474 (ébréché) et 1476. Beau à Très Beau. (duchy of Brabant, Charles the Bold (1467-77), two piece lot of double briquets, Antwerp mint, 1474 (chipped) and 1476, fine to very fine.)"

After Charles' death in battle in 1477, Marie's marriage to Maximilian of Hapsburg brought Spanish rule to the Low Countries.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 2.92 g, silver, 26 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: G.H. 34-1. Roberts-8381 (attributed to Flanders).
