This specimen was lot 2682 in Sincona sale 80 (Zürich, October 2022), where it sold for 100 CHF (about US$120 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "ITALY | [[Italy, Modena|Massa di Lunigiana]], Alberico II. Cybo Malaspina, 1662-1690. Luigino da 8 Bolognini 1665. Extremely fine. Usual adjustment marks." Modena lies between Parma and Ferrara, and the town of Massa lies in the south of the duchy, near Carrara. This coin, based on the twelfth écu of Louis XIV, was intended by the marquis to cash in on a fad for these for trade with Turkey. A similar coin with the title of DUX (KM 39) was also struck in 1665.
