This specimen was lot 1350 in Jean Elsen sale 137 (Brussels, June 2018), where it sold for €70 (about US$98 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"NEDERLAND, UTRECHT, Philips II (1555-1581), AR 1/20 Philipsdaalder, 1572. Vz/ Gekroond wapenschild omringd door de keten van het Gulden Vlies. Kz/ Gebloemd kruis. Zeldzaam. bijna Zeer Fraai. (Netherlands, province of Utrecht, Philip II, 1555-81, silver 1/20 daalder of 1572. Obverse: crowned arms, Order of the Golden Fleece around; reverse: floriate cross. Scarce, nearly very fine.)"
This coin, along with similar tenth écus and fifth écus, seems to be the first fumbling attempt at a decimal coinage.
Reported Mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver, this specimen 2,60 g.
Catalog reference: G.H. 215-16a.
