The first specimen was lot 257 in Áureo y Calicó sale 347 (Barcelona, March 2020), where it sold for €1,200 (about US$1,584 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"1747. Fernando VI. Santa Fe de Nuevo Reino. (S). 2 escudos. Leones y castillos. Muy rara. Sólo hemos tenido este ejemplar. EBC-. (kingdom of Spain, Ferdinand VI, two escudos of 1747, Nuevo Reino mint, lions and castles. Very rare, we know of this example only. About extremely fine.)"
The second specimen was lot 54 in Sedwick sale 34 (Winter Park, FL, November 2023), where it did not sell. The catalog description[2] noted, "Bogota, Colombia, gold cob 2 escudos, 1747 S, very rare, NGC AU details / rev rim damage. Small thick flan with nearly full shield (lions and castles transposed) topped by steeply arched crown, bold full cross-and-tressure on other side with very clear bottom half of 747 of date, the stated rim damage on reverse no more than a couple old marks, one of only two in the NGC census." This type is listed for 1747-56 with all dates marked as rare as most known specimens don't have legible dates. We aren't sure how the cataloguers decided that this is an issue of Ferdinand and not Philip. Milled coinage of gold commenced in 1755.
Recorded mintage: unknown but rare.
Specification: 6.77 g, 0.917 fine gold, the first specimen 6,72 g, the second specimen 6.65 grams.
