Sincona sale 82, lot 1773

This specimen was lot 1773 in Sincona sale 82 (Zürich, May 2023), where it sold for 5,500 CHF (about US$7,361 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "George II. 1727-1760. Guinea 1755, London. Old laureate head. Sehr selten (Very rare). NGC MS62." The guineas of George II come in many varieties and this one, struck 1747-60, is the fifth. All dates are scarce but this is probably the most available guinea of this ruler.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 8.35 g, 0.917 fine gold; this specimen 8.35 g.

Catalog reference: KM 588, Spink 3680, Bull 617 (R3), Fr-344.
