This specimen was lot 1653 in SINCONA Auction 97 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 1,400 CHF (about US$2,031 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ITALIEN Genua, Dogi Biennali, 1528-1797. 2 Doppie 1617, Genova. Gutes sehr schön. Kleiner Doppelschlag. (Italy, republic of Genoa, biennial doges, 1528-1797, double doppia of 1617, Genoa mint. Good Very Fine, slightly double struck.)"
This type, struck along with half and single doppie, is listed in the SCWC for 1603, 1608, 1612, 1617-32 and 1637 but dates as early as 1592 exist. Two doppie equaled four ducats. Genoese coins were generally struck in the name of emperor Conrad II (d. 1039).
