This specimen is one of a type issued since 2009 as part of the reform of the Mexican peso. It replaced a aluminum-bronze type (KM 549) struck 1992-2009. When the fifty centavos was introduced, one dollar was about three pesos; today (December 2024), US$1 = 20.6 pesos.

Recorded mintage: 684,671,852.

Specification: 3.10 g, stainless teel, 17 mm diameter, reeded edge.
