This specimen is one of a type issued since 1997 as part of the reform of the Mexican peso (a previous version had a silver center and was hoarded). When it was introduced, one dollar was about three pesos; today (December 2024), US$1 = 20.6 pesos.

Recorded mintage: 282,560,519.

Specification: 10.33 g, aluminum-bronze ring with nickel brass center, 28 mm diameter, reeded edge.
