This specimen was lot 25386 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), where it sold for $2,820. The catalog description[1] noted, "Alexander II gold 5 Roubles 1880 СПБ-HФ, Crowned double-headed Imperial eagle / Date and value in circle, MS62 NGC. The surfaces display light marks with full, brilliant luster and sharply defined devices. A scarce, and underrated, issue." This type is listed for 1859-85 and is fairly common in circulated condition. In 1886, the standard was revised to match the French twenty francs d'or, resulting in a weight reduction to .186 troy oz.

Recorded mintage: 6,200,000.

Specification: 6.54 g, 0.917 fine gold, .192 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: Fr-163; KM Y-B26; Bit-29; Severin-494.
