Heritage sale 3064, lot 33034
GB H3064-33034r.jpg

This specimen was lot 33034 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $360. The catalog description[1] noted, "George II Penny 1750 MS66 NGC. A plethora of gorgeous colors and a crisp strike grant a clear presence to this otherwise unassuming issue--sky-blue and champagne colors wage an endless battle for primacy across the obverse fields while champagne clearly takes the upper hand on a reverse chalked with die polish lines." In the eighteenth century, until the introduction of the Boulton and Watt penny of 1797, this denomination was still struck in silver as it had been since the Middle Ages. Most survivors of the reign of George II come from Maundy sets, as this one does.

Recorded mintage: unknown but not rare.

Specification: 0.50 g, 0.925 fine silver.

Catalog reference: S.3715A; ESC-2345A, KM 567.
