Heritage sale 3040, lot 29970
Great Britain H3040-29970r.jpg

This specimen was lot 29970 in Heritage sale 3040 (Chicago, April 2015), where it sold for $1,057.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "George IV 6 Pence 1824 MS66 PCGS, Royal mint. Lovely, if somewhat uneven, toning. About half the coin has a dark blue and red tone, while the other half has a lighter gunmetal patina, giving this piece a very unique look. A great piece for the grade-conscious British minor collector. From The Law Collection." This three year type is noted for 1824-26. The mintage recorded here represents a substantial retreat from the levels of 1817-20, when millions were made; this type is decidedly expensive in nice condition. Large mintages would resume in 1834.

Recorded mintage: 634,000.

Specification: 2.82 g, 0.925 fine silver, .084 troy oz.

Catalog reference: KM 691, S-3814.
