This specimen was lot 25176 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Naples. Ferdinand I gold 15 Ducati 1818, AU58 NGC, nicely toned with traces of mint luster, small contact marks on both sides. Rare one-year type with an excellent portrait of the King." This type was issued 1818 only for Ferdinand I. These gold coins were issued intermittently until 1856 and all are scarce. The Kingdom of the Two Sicilies was annexed to Italy in 1860 but remains poor, backward and corrupt.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 18.93 g, .996 fine gold, .606 troy oz AGW.
Catalog reference: KM 287, Fr-856.
