Jean Elsen sale 154, lot 1869

This specimen was lot 1869 in Jean Elsen sale 154 (Brussels, March 2023), where it sold for €380 (about US$492 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"NEDERLAND, UTRECHT, Provincie, AV dukaat met de ridder, 1607. Vz/ Staande ridder n.r. met zwaard en pijlenbundel. Kz/ Tekst in versierd vierkant. Lichte dubbelslag. Zeer Fraai. (Netherlands, province of Utrecht, gold ducat of the knight of 1607. Obverse: standing knight right with sword and bundle of arrows; reverse: four lines of text. Slightly double struck, Very Fine.)"

This ducat was struck with this mintmark 1602-24, 1629-48. The SCWC awards no premium for this date. Ducats were struck until the end of the republic without significant change. Note the extremely crude overdate, 1607/5.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.49 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 3,47 g.

Catalog reference: KM 7.1, Verk. 98, 3; Delm-963; Fr-284.
