Stack's Bowers November 2022 Collectors Choice sale, lot 72288

This specimen was lot 72288 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $552. The catalog description[1] noted, "BAHAMAS. 20 Dollars, 1971. Arezzo Mint. Elizabeth II. NGC PROOF-69 Ultra Cameo. A near-Perfect strike with incredible cameo details of waves crashing onto a lighthouse." The lighthouse reverse was used on several issues of this denomination. For 1971, varieties exist with (shown here) and without the fineness (KM 27).

Recorded mintage: 22,000 plus 1,250 proofs.

Specification: 7.99 g, 0.917 fine gold, 0.2355 troy oz AGW (same standard as a British sovereign).
