This specimen was lot 25476 in Heritage sale 3015 (Long Beach, September 2011), where it sold for $1,840. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 50 Soles 1959, MS65 PCGS, full mint brilliance." This denomination, struck 1950-69, was theoretically a circulating coin but actually was a bullion piece like her sisters, the gold five, ten, twenty and hundred soles.

Recorded mintage: 5,734.

Specification: 23.405 g, 0.900 fine gold, .677 troy oz AGW.
