H3067-31788r.jpg

This specimen was lot 31788 in Heritage sale 3067 (Long Beach, September 2018), where it sold for $2,640. The catalog description[1] noted, "Great Britain: George VI Proof 1/2 Crown 1938 PR67 Cameo NGC. The highest graded example of the impressive selection of George VI Proofs of Record offered in this sale. Flawless, ice-white mirrors enthrall the viewer, as does George's deeply frosted portrait; the strike is incredible, as is the overall eye-appeal. A specimen which impresses in every regard, and sure to garner significant bidder attention." This type was struck 1937-46 and is common altho this date is slightly scarce. In 1947, the silver coinage was converted to copper-nickel to release precious metal for the payment of American war loans.

Recorded mintage: 6,426,000 plus proofs.

Specification: 14.14 g, 0.500 fine silver, 32.3 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 856, S-4080, ESC-788a.
