This specimen was lot 72563 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $336. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. Gulden, 1957. Utrecht Mint; privy mark: fish. PCGS PROOF-65 Gold Shield. Tied with just one other specimen for the top spot in the PCGS census, this vibrant Gem proof striking offers argent central fields and deeply burnished peripheries." Queen Wilhelmina abdicated in 1948 in protest of Dutch colonial policy in Indonesia in favor of her daughter, Juliana, who would rule until 1980. New coin types were therefore necessary and were introduced in 1950. This silver gulden was struck 1954-67, then converted to nickel (KM 184a). No dates are rare.
