Mexico 1753/2-Mo MF escudo

This specimen was lot 1174 in Stack's "Vermuele, Ward & Mexico Maxico" sale (New York, January 2010), where it sold for $718.75. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Fernando VI, 1746-1759. 1 Escudo, 1753/2 Mo MF. Mexico City. Small bust r., tall-letter legend and date. Rv. Crowned shield, NOMINA MAGNA SEQUOR, I Follow Great Names. Full strike. Choice Very Fine. From the Mexico Maxico (Magical Mexico) Collection." All Mexican colonial gold may be considered scarce. This type was struck 1752-56 and is the second of three types featuring Ferdinand VI, who died in 1759. The SCWC does not award the overdate a premium; the type is too rare for most collectors to collect by date.
