Stack's Bowers 2021 NYINC sale, lot 24421

This specimen was lot 24421 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU. 5 Soles, 1956. Lima Mint. PCGS MS-67. This tremendous plus-Gem offers radiating and dazzling brilliance, as well as an alluring golden-orange tone throughout." This denomination, struck 1956-69, was theoretically a circulating coin but actually was a bullion piece like her sisters, the gold ten, twenty, fifty and hundred soles.

Recorded mintage: 4,510.

Specification: 2.34 g, 0.900 fine gold.
