Sincona sale 85, lot 1137

This specimen was lot 1137 in Sincona sale 85 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 500 CHF (about US$673 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"IRAN, Muzaffar al-Din Shah, 1313-1324 AH (1896-1907). 1 Shahi sefid n. d. (1320 AH / 1903 AD), Tehran Mint. Saheb al-Zaman. Very rare in this condition. NGC MS66. Cabinet piece. From the Kian collection, auction SINCONA 49, October 2018, lot 145. From the Mesrob Abgarians collection, Glendale, 1987. Finest certified by NGC."

The shahi, or fifty dinars, was supposed to be superseded by a copper-nickel coin (KM 961) but continued to be struck until the end of the regime. This undated type is quite scarce.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 0.80 g, 0.900 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM 967.
