Zambia converted to decimal coinage in 1969 and this type was issued in bronze 1968-69, 1972 and 1978. It was struck again 1982-83 in copper plated steel, whereupon the denomination was suspended. Zambia has not issued any coinage for circulation since a fifty ngwee of 1992 (KM 30). The reverse features an aardvark.
